Scuba Anyone ... Diving Sites ... The Maldives

Emmas Thila

50 minutes away from Athuruga , in the middle of the oceanic pass formed by lagoons of the Himandoo and Moofushi islands, on the edge of the Ari atoll, at 14 meters depth there is a big coral formation whose name means “thila of the manta rays”.

Here you will find big canyons, the main feature of the first part of our dive and a big coral ceiling scattered with a lot of light blue soft coral. Here you may see lobsters or green turtles.

Reaching the corner of the reef you must be careful to not leave it because of the frequent strong currents that would take you into the middle of its flow, prematurely breaking off your dive.

Other fish to see include Napoleon fish, blue fin jackfish, moray eels manta rays.

Emmas Thila is a typical winter dive because in summer manta rays move to the eastern atolls where they can find more plankton. I suggest this dive site only to experienced divers because of the depth and the often adverse current conditions.
